The Black Watch Battalion is normally based in Fort George near Inverness – an 18th Century Fort looking out to the Moray Firth – and is currently a light role Infantry battalion. Over the last year the battalion has had a presence in over 11 different countries including Spain, France, Morocco, Libya, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Kuwait, Jordan, Nepal, and Canada.

The museum portrays the history of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) through a collection of regimental uniforms, accoutrements, trophies of war, and mementos. A regimental depot at Gagetown, New Brunswick was authorized on 16 October 1953. As a Regular Force regiment, the Black Watch served on NATO duty and peacekeeping missions overseas, notably Cyprus.
