The decision to begin work at Zossen as an underground military communications centre codenamed "Zeppelin" was taken in August 1936. Construction took from 1937 until just before the outbreak of war. Anti-aircraft defence was 19 "sugar-loaf" type flak towers. The telephone/telex bunker "Amt 500" covered 4881 sq.m on two levels.
